Mollie Fitzgerald, an actress who appeared in "Captain America: The First Avenger," is facing second-degree murder charges after she allegedly stabbed her 68-year-old mother to death at her Olathe, Kansas home. She was arrested on Tuesday and jailed on $500,000 bond, TMZ reported.
Authorities discovered the body of Mollie's mother, Patricia "Tee" Fitzgerald, on Dec. 20 after responding to a call about an armed disturbance at the address.
It is currently unclear what transpired that day and what led to Patricia's death but police allegedly contacted Mollie upon arrival at the scene. No further details have been released by authorities but it is believed that Mollie was later transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The case remains under investigation.
Patricia's brother, Gary Hunziker, said he was "shocked" by the death of his sister. He admitted to knowing very little about the circumstances surrounding her death but said it did not matter.
"The loss of a sister is what it's all about," he said, according to Fox News.
Mollie is set to be arraigned Thursday, TMZ reported.
The actress was cast as Stark Girl in "Captain America," which grossed $176.6 million in the U.S. She also appeared in several other films including 2014' "The Lawful Truth" and the low-budget 2017 film "The Creeps."
