A new "Rainbow Brite" cartoon will feature Molly Ringwald as The Dark Princess, the main adversary, bringing the '80s back by combining one of the decade's biggest film stars with one of its favorite fictional characters.
Feeln, a family-friendly movie subscription service, is rebooting the classic "Rainbow Brite" cartoon starting in November.
The main character will be voiced by Emily Osment, an actress-singer who appeared on "Hannah Montana," among other things.
"Being cast as the voice of Rainbow Brite for the relaunch of this iconic show is truly an honor. I look forward to connecting with the audience, old and new, and going on this exciting adventure together,"
Osment said in a statement, according to NBC Philadelphia.
But the big score here is Ringwald, who lends her voice and her '80s celebrity to the new cartoon.
Ringwald famously starred in the John Hughes films "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club," and "Pretty in Pink" in 1984, 1985, and 1986, respectively.
Rainbow Brite was created in 1983 by Hallmark Cards, and the show followed in 1984. It featured a yellow-haired girl as the hero who won back and then watched over the universe's colors.
"With Rainbow Brite, we believe we have created something that captures the essence of the original series — but with a vision that resonates today," Iris Ichishita, head of original entertainment at Feeln, said in a statement, according to NBC. "We hope audiences will react with an 'oh my bows!' — just like us."
