Mother of Columbine Shooter Dylan Klebold Gets Book Deal

By    |   Wednesday, 24 September 2014 08:49 AM EDT

The mother of Columbine High School shooter Dylan Klebold has signed a book deal with a major publisher, and has announced all of the book's profits will be donated to mental health charities.

Crown Publishers, a division of Random House, said in an announcement that the book will break Susan Klebold's 15-year silence about her son's decision to kill 12 classmates, one teacher, and himself along with his friend Eric Harris.

The book, which is still untitled, will "invite readers into [Klebold's] very private struggle of the last fifteen years as she and her family have tried to understand the events of that terrible day and the role they ultimately played in it," according to Crown, Publishers Weekly reported.

"What, if anything, should she have done differently?" is the central theme of the book.

The Associated Press reported that Susan Klebold will also provide her thoughts on other school shootings like the one that occurred in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. She said she was moved to speak out after these subsequent shootings.

Susan Klebold previously expressed her feelings about the Columbine shooting in an essay for Oprah Winfrey's "O'' magazine and in interviews for the book "Far from the Tree" by Andrew Solomon.

An exact release date for the upcoming book has not yet been set.
