A Mother's Day gift of three lotto tickets made one Illinois woman $4 million richer after she hit it big on one of the scratch-offs earlier this month.
Priti Shah, whose daughter gave her the three instant lottery tickets as a Mother's Day gift, scratched the $100 Million Monday Mania ticket with a penny and was shocked at the result.
“I didn’t win on the first two tickets, but the third ticket more than made up for it,” Shah told
lottery representatives, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"After a few days, I went to a store to check my ticket and even when they confirmed it, I still couldn’t believe it was true," she said.
The Illinois Lottery said the store is set to receive a $40,000 bonus, which adds up to a total of 1 percent of the prize, for distributing the ticket, according to the Tribune.
Shah has opted to receive $200,000 a year for the next 20 years and said she will invest her fortune and share it with her family.
“The next 20 years of my life will certainly be easier," Shah said.
