Myra Lewis, a missing 2-year-old girl from Madison County, Miss., is at the center of a joint search effort being conducted by the FBI, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and county sheriff’s department.
An Amber Alert was sent out Sunday, one day after
family members last saw Lewis at their rural Mississippi home, the Clarion Ledger reported.

"Until we can prove or disprove one or the other, we’ve still got to consider every possibility. She may have wandered off or been abducted, we just don’t know what (happened) at this point," Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said Tuesday at a news conference. "The Sheriff’s Department and multiple agencies, including the FBI and Mississippi Highway Patrol, you name it, they’ve all been here for us ... We have not given up."
So far authorities have reportedly searched 4 square miles around the family home, employing search and rescue dogs, aircraft, and more than 300 people, according to Tucker.
Lewis' family members believe their little girl was abducted from their home and told reporters that police dogs picked up her scent at one point over the weekend, the Clarion Ledger reported.
Though it is not clear how Lewis went missing, FBI Special Agent Daniel McMullen would not confirm the family's belief that the 2-year-old was abducted.
"We’re treating it just as it was reported — she is missing — and that’s how we’re going to pursue it," McMullen said at the Tuesday news conference. "I’ve not specifically received a call that she was taken away from the house.
"Whether we call it abduction, missing, what have you, we want to know where she is, and we don’t know that right now, so all the resources of the county, state resources, and federal resources are being brought together to do this," McMullen added. "I’m not going to talk about anything specific with regard to the investigation."
On Tuesday, FBI agents were seen carrying brown paper bags of evidence out of the family’s home.
