"Parents, for one, may want to move their families to a city with a demographic anatomy resembling that of the U.S. to expose their children to more diversity . . . Others may wish to live in a city that is less representative of the U.S. in certain dimensions such as education standards or cultural variety," it wrote.
Likewise, "For entrepreneurs, the information can be useful in determining where to launch their business ideas."
Basic demographic data on things like age, gender, and income, were factored into the rankings, as well as more complex metrics like household makeup and housing tenure.
In addition to ranking Nashville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis as the top three cities that represent the U.S. average across all metrics, WalletHub also released a few rankings for specific categories.
It found that Denver, for example, mirrored the country most closely in terms of race. Similarly, it found that Tulsa mirrored the country in terms of age.
All of the information used in the study was sourced from the U.S. Census and real estate website Zillow.
