Reality TV star Nate Burrell, who appeared in the A&E docuseries "60 Days In," died of suicide at age 33 days after he was charged with rape and multiple accounts of assault, according to court records. Burrell fatally shot himself in public on Saturday in Allegan, Michigan, and now it has emerged that he was facing five felony charges, including criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, People reported. He had been scheduled for an arraignment on Nov. 9.
Shortly before taking his own life, Burrell posted what appeared to be a suicide note to his social media.
"This isn't an admission of guilt. I'm just tired, I've been through so much in my life, the pain of my situation now hurts more than I ever imagined. I can't keep going on," he wrote.
Burrell was married with a baby on the way, but hinted at problems in his relationship. In his post, the star wrote that he would not get a chance to raise his son and that he could only imagine "how bad this would turn out."
"I want to apologize to my family and friends for failing you," he added. "I know alot of you will think you could have changed my mind I ensure you, you wouldn't. This isn't a spontaneous thing. I had so much support through this and I am beyond grateful for everyone and everything you all have done. SO THANK YOU!"
Burrell served in the military as a Marine from 2006 to 2010 and completed two tours of Iraq. He appeared in seasons three and four of "60 Days In," a reality TV show that sees several ordinary people volunteer to spend 60 days behind bars in Indiana's Clark County Jail without fellow inmates or staff knowing their true identities.
