On a normal night the smoke, explosions, gunfire, and swirling helicopters at President Donald Trump’s estate in Palm Beach, Florida, would have caused an international incident. Especially with the pending arrival of Chinese president Xi Jinping Thursday.
But on this warm, breezy spring evening on the “great lawn” at Mar-a-Lago, the simulated warfare was just for fun, part of a biennial fundraiser at the “Southern White House” benefitting the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Navy SEAL Museum. The event was attended by more than 700 people. It raised everyone’s heartbeat and more than $1.5 million.
After the demonstration, guests listened to several SEALs talk about the bonds formed between “Special Operators." Medal of Honor recipient Edward C. Byers honored Gold Star Families and his fallen brothers with a special toast.
That proceeds from the event will help provide assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families through the Navy SEAL Foundation. The proceeds will also help preserve the history of the SEALs through the National Navy SEAL Museum / Trident House.
