Naya Rivera, who plays Santana Lopez on "Glee," caused a stir on "The View" this week when she suggested showering every day is for white people.

"I think that white people shower a lot more than ethnics," she said, commenting on co-host Nicolle Wallace's revelation that she showers three times a day. "I feel like showering more than once a day or every day is such a white people thing."

As E! Online reported, co-host Rosie O'Donnell noted that a black woman in the audience was visibly stunned by Rivera's comments.

"Look, there is an African-American woman right there in a yellow shirt that is about to have a heart attack," she said, pointing to the woman. O'Donnell asked her if she was a "frequent showerer," to which the woman nodded in the affirmative.

Rivera backpedaled a bit, explaining that, "My mom is half black, half Puerto Rican. She showers every day, so I can say this."

She then brought up her husband, Ryan Dorsey.

"I am now married to a white man, and he showers a lot. Like, a lot — two, three times a day. I'm like, 'What are you doing?'"

The 28-year-old actress then all but outright admitted she doesn't shower daily.

"Dermatologists say you are only supposed to shower once or twice every three days, so I'm right on the mark."

Twitter took particular umbrage with her comments, but Rivera didn't back down, and tweeted back.
