Benjamin Netanyahu's son reposted a meme on his Facebook page last week that was later deleted after charges that it contained anti-Semitic themes about his father's perceived Jewish enemies, the Washington Post reported.
The cartoon Yair Netanyahu, 26, reposted appeared to be based on the long anti-Semitic theme that Jews control the United States and had appeared regularly on extreme alt-right websites before, the Post reported.
The newspaper wrote that the cartoon depicted American Jewish billionaire investor George Soros, former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, activist Eldad Yaniv, and Meni Naftali, a former housekeeper for the Netanyahus who successfully sued them for mistreatment, along with a reptile with the words "food chain."
David Duke, former Louisiana state legislator and Ku Klux Klan leader, tweeted about the younger Netanyahu's use of the cartoon Saturday.
"Yair Netanyahu is a total bro," Andrew Anglin wrote in the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer, according to the Post. "Next he's going to call for gassings."
The Times of Isreal wrote that "hidden in plain sight within the since-removed meme were two of the most potent anti-Jewish narratives: the colonizing alien-lizard Jew, and the scheming Illuminati Jew."
Barak blasted the use of the cartoon, suggesting that the younger Netanyahu seek counseling, The Independent reported.
"What is it, genetics or a spontaneous mental illness? It doesn't matter," Barak said, according to The Independent. "In any case, we ought to pay for him to have a psychiatrist, not a bodyguard and a chauffeur."
The Independent wrote that Yair Netanyahu responded to the former prime minister by calling him a drunk who needed geriatric care.
Carole Nuriel, director of Anti-Defamation League's Israel office, said in a statement that she was glad that the Facebook post had been deleted.
"Whatever the intent behind this post, it was a hateful image and we are glad that it was removed," Nuriel said in the statement. "ADL consistently has condemned the use of this image and others like it. We speak out because one cannot diminish the danger when anti-Semitic discourse seeps into the mainstream.
"It threatens the Jewish people and poses even larger problems for society. The fact that white supremacists such as David Duke and his supporters are applauding the use of this imagery should raise red flags for all reasonable people," Nuriel continued.
