As the NFL regular season gets underway, the NFL has unveiled the new Color Rush uniforms for 2016. These uniforms will be featured during Thursday night games and are designed to be extra bright and mostly, if not all, one color.
Last season, only eight teams had Color Rush uniforms, but this year, all 32 teams have them, although some will not wear them due to color conflicts with their opposing teams, according to Fox Sports.
The NFL received numerous complaints during the 2015 season when the first Color Rush game featured red and green uniforms, which confused fans with color-blindness for whom there isn’t much difference between those two colors.
The uniforms use the existing color scheme for each team, with some like the Miami Dolphins using a secondary color; in their case, orange. The Color Rush uniforms were unveiled with the slogan “Light up Thursday Night!” emblazoned across images of shimmery uniforms in motion. Most Color Rush uniforms are monochromatic, although a few have small bits of other colors.
Although all the teams have Color Rush uniforms, a total of nine teams will not get to wear them this year, including the teams that play on Thanksgiving, which is not part of the usual Thursday night football program. Teams with similar colors, or colors that would look similar to the color blind, will wear their white away jerseys during their games to show a clear distinction and avoid any further confusion.
All 32 team jerseys will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to the NFL foundation to fund youth football programs, including $500,000 toward the replacement of equipment and fields that were flooded last month in Louisiana, according to USA Today.
