Highlights from NFL games are coming to Twitter under a new deal signed by the league and the popular social networking site.

The agreement falls under Twitter’s Amplify program that already includes the NBA, Warner Music, and CBS, among others, The Associated Press reported. Amplify lets broadcasters show ad-supported video clips in feeds going to Twitter users.

Folks on Twitter seemed happy with the news on Thursday.

The Wall Street Journal says the NFL will have a team producing programming for Twitter users seven days a week. Programming will include in-game highlights from Thursday night games broadcast on the NFL network, along with clips from games broadcast on other networks. Other features include news, analysis, and Fantasy Football advice.

The NFL and Twitter have already pre-sold advertising that will net revenue in the “low eight-figure range, according to a person familiar with the situation,” the WSJ reported. Verizon is expected to be one of the main sponsors. It also will be the exclusive Twitter advertiser for the Super Bowl.

The newspaper noted that Verizon had already inked a $1 billion, 4-year deal that expands its rights to air NFL games on cell phones through an NFL mobile app.
