Two dogs jumped out of a car involved in a car wreck, and Ague, of South Londonderry, Pa., caught up with the German shepherd to make sure the dog got home, The Huffington Post reported. Realizing the scared dog had run about two miles and could not go any farther, Ague picked her up and carried her to the owner’s car.

“The dog was not moving because the skin on the pads of her feet was hanging, presumably because of the distance she ran,” Ague told ABC News. “She ran two miles from the crash on hot asphalt.”

ABC News declared the policeman a hero for his part in taking care of the dog.

Many people took the time to comment under the Facebook photo about Ague’s commitment.

Jasmine End Bsl Odysse wrote, “LOVE THIS STORY!!!!! Thank you Officer Ague! You are a true hero.”

Debbie Tapert wrote, “Nice to know that there are people who do care about our animals as much as we care.”

The dog, named Mya, weighed about 75 pounds and Ague carried her 100 yards, The Huffington Post said.

Mya's owner told ABC that Mya is doing well and her paws are nearly healed.

ABC said Ague owns a German shepherd and said he was a “huge animal lover.” To him, it seemed the natural thing to do to take care of the dog.

“Just putting myself in the owner’s shoes, I would not want to be in that situation,” Ague told ABC. “I tried to right any wrong and do what I hoped someone would do for me.”
