Nicki Minaj opened up about an abortion she had as a teenager in an
interview with Rolling Stone.
The 32-year-old rapper discovered she was pregnant while attending Manhattan performing-arts high school LaGuardia.
"I thought I was going to die," Minaj said, according to Rolling Stone. "I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through."
She said the abortion has "haunted me all my life." She rapped about it on a mixtape track "Autobiography" and alludes to it in her album “The Pinkprint.”
"It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice. I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child," Minaj said, according to Rolling Stone.
Minaj included personal experiences on her latest album because "One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," the singer told Rolling Stone.
Minaj expressed her desire to have a child in an interview with Complex magazine, in which she said her greatest fear is “That I’ll become so consumed with work that I’ll forget to live my personal life to the fullest. If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother.”
