Nicolas Cage Shirt Spoofing Own Meme Goes Viral After Guns N' Roses Pic

By    |   Tuesday, 10 June 2014 09:57 AM EDT

Guns N' Roses snapped a picture of Nicolas Cage at their Saturday night concert that quickly went viral after fans noticed the actor was wearing a T-shirt of himself.

The shirt references a popular Internet joke known as the "You Don't Say?" meme, which consists of a stylized picture of Cage that's commonly used to level sarcasm at people stating the obvious, according to People magazine. The shirt, combined with Cage's oversized jewelry, tassels, cowboy hat, and cane make for quite the getup.

The image featured on the T-shirt is culled from Cage's 1989 role as Peter Loew in the movie "Vampire's Kiss," and is the most popular among thousands of jokes about Nic Cage found across social media sites.

Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites like Reddit feature literally thousands of Photoshopped jokes about Cage, where the actor is often held up as a symbol of kitschy ridiculousness because of his acting style, the strange roles he sometimes chooses, or both. There is even a popular blog known as "Nic Cage As Everyone" dedicated to Photoshopping Cage's face onto anyone and everyone from cartoon characters to animals to the Queen of England.

It has long been debated whether Cage is aware of his status as an Internet cult figure and subject of frequent lampooning, and the T-shirt finally settles that debate.

It is now unmistakable that Cage is laughing along with everyone, aware that he is the crème de la crème of Internet jokes.
