Nike's new animated World Cup ad — actually, at more than 5 minutes it's more of a short movie — that highlights several of the world’s most recognizable soccer players is going viral prior to the opening of the tournament.
“The Last Game,” running 5 minutes and 28 seconds, depicts a scientist cloning the soccer players to prove that the world’s most popular sport would be better with perfect, risk-free players. The animated players include Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, England’s Wayne Rooney, Brazil’s Neymar Jr., David Luiz, and Ronaldo Fenomeno, Spain’s Andres Iniesta, the USA’s Tim Howard, Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and France’s Franck Ribery.

“The idea behind ‘The Last Game’ is to show the world that Nike, like any true lover of football, believes that the game should be brilliant, daring, and bold,”
Davide Grasso, Nike’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement posted on Nike’s website. “Having the confidence to take risks is absolutely vital in football.”
In a writeup on the Nike spot, Adweek said, "Every frame is gorgeously rendered. It really is like a mini Pixar film. The storyline, too, is nice and simple—grand yet silly and self-deprecating in classic Nike style."
Nike said the release of “The Last Game” is the last part of the company’s #riskeverything campaign.
The World Cup opens Thursday with Brazil hosting Croatia.
