Norm MacDonald, former "Saturday Night Live" comedian and "Last Comic Standing" judge, has been cast as the famous Colonel Sanders in KFC's latest ad campaign.
"Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world’s best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel," joked Kevin Hochman, the company's head of marketing.
AdWeek.com reported that the fast food restaurant cast fellow "SNL" alum Darrell Hammond as the Colonel earlier this year. The Hammond commercials have been woven into some of the new MacDonald spots, kicking off extra hilarity as each argues for their authenticity as the real Colonel Sanders.
"I was blown away when I learned that Colonel Sanders didn't even start KFC until he was 65. That's a whole lot of legend to fit into a couple decades, and it takes a strong work ethic, the kind you don't see every day, to do it like he did," MacDonald said upon the release of the first ad.
"He never gave up, never accepted less than the best and never held back an opinion. Plus he looks great in white."
Despite his last name, MacDonald is seen in the ads hawking both KFC's new $20 Family Fill Up meal and popular $5 Fill Up.
