News of a possible 'NSYNC reunion at the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend practically brought down the Internet after an inside source tweeted about the rumored performance Tuesday morning.

USA Today reported that a former MTV intern claimed that 'NSYNC — or Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, J.C. Chasez, and Joey Fatone — is scheduled to take the stage at Sunday's VMA Awards in Brooklyn. It would mark the group's first performance together since they broke up in 2002.

Known as the leaders of the boy band bubble of the late '90s and early '00s, 'NSYNC's legion of screaming fans catapulted them to groundbreaking success. Their second album, 2000's "No Strings Attached," sold 1 million copies in one day.

The band announced a "temporary hiatus" in 2002 when Timberlake launched his solo career.

Today, Timberlake is the only member still actively working in the music industry. He is reportedly set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during Sunday's VMA show. The 32-year-old singer is also tied with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for the most nominations with six total, including Video of the Year, Best Male Video, and Best Pop Video.

The possible reunion announcement sparked an onslaught of excited tweets from fans hankering to see 'NSYNC perform live once again.
