NYPD cop Randolph Holder was shot in the head and killed on Tuesday night while chasing a robbery suspect in East Harlem. The man was later caught.

"Tonight, he did what every other officer in the NYPD does. When the call comes, he runs toward danger," Commissioner Bill Bratton said at an early Wednesday press conference at Harlem Hospital, Pix 11 reported. "It is the last time he will respond to the call."

Holder, 33, a native of Guyana, was a third-generation police officer and five-year veteran of the force, assigned to a unit that patrols public housing areas.

He was described by Mayor Bill de Blasio as, "An immigrant who wanted to give back to his city and his country. ... In the words of Abraham Lincoln, a man who gave the last full measure of his devotion on behalf of a city he loved."

"We are fighting to understand the loss of a man who did so much, cared so much, dedicated so much to protecting others," he added.

Bratton told reporters that Holder is the fourth NYPD officer to be killed in the line of duty in the past 11 months.

Officer Brian Moore was killed in Queens on May 2, and officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were ambushed and executed as they sat in their car in Brooklyn by the cop-hating Ismaaiyl Brinsley in December 2014.

According to the New York Post, Holder responded to a 911 call about gunfire between rival gangs on 102nd St. around 9 p.m. When officers arrived, the groups fled, and one suspect robbed a citizen of their bicycle at gunpoint. Cops chased the hijacker up First Avenue and over a footbridge at 120th St. and FDR Drive. After the suspect made it over the river, he shot at the cops, hitting Holder in the head.

Holder's partner shot back at the suspect, striking him in the leg and buttocks. He was soon apprehended at East 124th St.

"I heard so many gunshots," said witness Angelique Martinez, 47. "It sounded like there was a shootout outside my building. It’s really scary."

Holder was transported to Harlem Hospital, and died around 10:30 p.m.
