A 30-year-old mother of four was the victim of an apparent road rage confrontation on the way home from the grocery store in Oakland on Sunday.
Perla Aviña was a passenger in a car driven by her husband when she was shot in the face and
killed by someone in another car, Contra Costa Times reported.
"He was a coward with a gun," Aviña’s husband, 33-year-old Luis Lopez Gallegos, said. "A young guy with a gun who doesn't care about life."
Gallegos said another driver was unhappy with the way he drove before the shots were fired. He drove his Toyota Camry a short distance to his home to call for help, Contra Costa Times reported.
"He pulled up really abrupt, halfway in the driveway and called to me," neighbor Dwayne Jackson said, according to the report. "He said, 'D, call 911. My wife's been shot.' We pulled her out of the car and I started giving her CPR, but I pretty much knew she was gone."
Police are offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Along with her husband, Aviña leaves behind three girls — ages 1, 5, and 10 — and a
14-year-old son, CBS San Francisco reported.
"She’s the love of my life . . . and I won’t find anyone to replace her," Gallegos said, according to CBS. "You know, she gave me four beautiful kids."
