A kayaker who drowned in upstate New York's Oatka Creek Monday night has been identified as 50-year-old Andrew Wright.

Wright, of Parma, N.Y., was kayaking with a group of six friends in Oatka Creek around 8 p.m. Monday when his kayak flipped over in a narrow passage, pinning him underwater. After several minutes, his friends were able to free him, get him ashore, and perform CPR.

Wright was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Mike Lewis, chief of the Mumford Fire Department, told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
