Obama Family Christmas Photo Gets Upstaged by Cute Little Elf

The Obama family Christmas photo was overshadowed this year by a mischievous elf, who used the photo opportunity to make a funny face while flanked by the president and his family.

During the 32nd annual Christmas in Washington concert, held Sunday evening at the National Building Museum, the first family stood for a photo with five children dressed as elves. The kids were patients from the Children's National Medical Center, which was the beneficiary of the event.

In the photo, one of the five children is seen pulling back his cheeks. The act is not missed by the first lady and President Barack Obama, who told the kids with a laugh, "good job, elves, nice job," Britain's Daily Mail reported.

The children who participated in the Christmas event were all given donated gifts.

The event was hosted by actor Hugh Jackman and featured performances by Sheryl Crow, Janelle Monae, and the Backstreet Boys, among others. Even retired NBA star Charles Barkley showed up to the event to discuss programs at Children’s National, the New York Daily News reported.

Obama reportedly joked with the Australian-born "Wolverine" star during the event, telling him, "I want to thank our host Hugh Jackman for keeping our safety in mind by leaving Wolverine's claws at home."

"It can't be easy to wrap presents with those things; good for carving up roast beast though," Obama added, the Daily Mail reported.

After the Christmas carols were sung, the president addressed the audience, telling those in attendance that Americans should remember Jesus Christ’s lessons of charity and compassion.

"Through his example, he taught us that we should love the Lord, love our neighbors as we love ourselves," Obama said. "It’s a teaching that has endured for generations. And today, it lies at the heart of my faith and that of millions of Americans, and billions around the globe.

"No matter who we are, or where we come from, or how we worship, it’s a message of hope and devotion that can unite all of us this holiday season," Obama added.
