An Ohio theater began playing the horror movie “Insidious: Chapter 3” instead of the scheduled animated film to an audience consisting primarily of parents and their children over the weekend.
The theater-goers had just sat down in the Danbarry Cinema in Middletown with their snacks to enjoy what they thought was Disney Pixar’s latest family-friendly, PG-rated film "Inside Out." Instead, images of children being tied up and murdered lit up the
screen and startled the attendees, according to the Journal-News.
Jazmyn Moore, a woman who attended the showing with five children, later posted her
own horror and outrage on the Journal-News Facebook page, saying that the children with her were terrified at the images and sounds flashing past them on the screen, prompting her, as well as other parents, to scoop up their kids and run out of the theater.
“I got our money back but the damage is already done . . . my children are terrified and keep asking questions,” Moore said in her Facebook post.
According to The Associated Press, the theater ensured that all the parents received an apology, as well as an upgrade to watch “Inside Out” in 3-D.
Although other parents shared Moore’s anger and frustration over the movie mix-up, other parents did not think it was such a big deal after all.
Mandy Adkins wrote on the Journal-News Facebook post that “Insidious,” which is rated PG-13, never even started; it was the previews for "Sinister 2" that caused Moore's ire. What's more, Adkins said, the same previews are easily accessible to kids because they air on cable TV and before other movies.
“Holding a movie theater accountable for showing a movie trailer that plays on all stations other than family-specific stations is a tad bit silly,” she wrote. “And as a customer that was there at that time, I have to say that the children were all calm and fine until a couple of parents started screaming at the tops of their lungs, scaring everyone far more than the unfortunate mix-up did.”
