The driver of Oprah Winfrey’s SUV accidentally drove over a Miami woman’s foot Saturday, trapping her toes under the car’s weight.
Lori Geller Bender was with her husband, Kevin Bender, at Prime 112, a Miami restaurant, when she approached the establishment at the same time as
Winfrey’s car pulled up, New York Post's Page Six reported. The star had already eaten at the restaurant with her friend, Gayle King.
“We were crossing the street to arrive at the restaurant, and there were a lot of cameras. I could see a big crowd of security guards, and as soon as Oprah got into the car, it pulled out from the curb, and a wheel went over my foot,” Bender told Page Six. “I was wearing heels, my toe was trapped under the wheel and I fell to the ground, hitting my coccyx and my head.
“My husband was banging on the window, shouting for the driver to pull back,” she added. “I am lucky because if the SUV had gone slightly further forward it would have crushed my whole ankle.”
“The driver reversed off my foot and Oprah jumped out. She couldn’t have been nicer and more gracious,” Bender told Page Six. “She looked really shocked and asked me if I was OK, and took a good look at my foot. I wasn’t hurt, and I told her I was fine. Oprah said, ‘Well, that’s worth a picture,’ and she put her arm around me and we took some photos.”
Bender told Page Six that meeting Winfrey was on her bucket list, but she never imagined she’d have to get her toes squashed to make it happen.
Bender told the Sun Sentinel she has no intentions of filing a lawsuit over the incident, as some online comments have suggested. She said she was a little uncomfortable on Monday, but that everything was fine. Her nail polish didn’t even get chipped.
“That's not my way," she told the Sentinel. "You say 'Thank God you're OK' and you move on."
