Two Pakistan buses collided Monday in the Rahim Yar Khan district, killing dozens of people and injuring many more.

According to ITV, at least 30 people were killed and 69 others injured in the bus collision. Other reports varied. Local authorities said speed appeared to be the cause of the accident at a dangerous curve in the road. The broadcasters said poor infrastructure and reckless driving habits make deadly accidents common.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he felt "deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives," ITV reported.

The two buses were carrying about 100 people at the time of the crash in the town of Khanpur, about 500 miles south of Islamabad, Al Jazeera reported. Police official Jamshid Shah said women and children were among those killed and injured.

Local media said one of the buses was traveling from Karachi to Lahore while the other was transporting passengers to Sadiqabad from Faisalabad. Local police chief Mehar Arsal said the buses slammed into trees after colliding, noted Al Jazeera.

Rescue crews were using cutters to retrieve bodies trapped inside the two buses.

More than 4,600 people were killed on Pakistan roads in 2013, the last year the government released official data, according to Al Jazeera.
