Palin 'Nerd Prom' Tweet Sets Off Online Political Debate

By    |   Monday, 29 April 2013 08:04 AM EDT

Former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin lashed out via Twitter over the weekend, calling the members of the media who attended Saturday's White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner "DC a—clowns."

Though Palin has never attended the event, both her husband and her daughter Bristol have been guests in the past, and Palin herself has made appearances at some of the dinner's after-parties in the past.

But that didn’t stop Palin from calling the dinner a "nerd prom."

Members of the media, celebrities, and Twitter users immediately jumped on Palin's comments.

Some, however, applauded her blunt opinion of the celebrity event.

Palin isn’t the only one to speak out against the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Longtime NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw criticized the dinner last year, saying the star-studded event sends a message of, "We're Versailles. The rest of you eat cake."
