A planned "Passion of the Christ" sequel has some people furious with Mel Gibson, even though few details have been released about the movie so far.
The sequel, tentatively titled, "Resurrection," will chronicle the story of Christ's rising from the dead and will see Jim Caviezel reprise his title role, USA Today reported.
"There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience," Caviezel said in confirming that he will again play Christ, USA Today reported. "It's great. Stay tuned."
Not everyone is convinced that the movie will be good, however. Critics of 2004's "The Passion of the Christ" argued that the first installment carried anti-Semitic overtones and that the graphic violence had been more severe than even the biblical text warranted, Business Insider reported.
Gibson didn't help counter the anti-Semitic accusations when he was accused in 2006 of making anti-Semitic, sexist and violent statements to a police officer as he was being arrested for drunk driving, BI reported. Gibson was also investigated for domestic violence and accused of making sexist and violent remarks to his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
He was thought to have redeemed himself with 2016's Hacksaw Ridge, for which he received an Oscar nomination, but it seems that not everyone has forgiven and forgotten his previous indiscretions.
Twitter saw many negative comments about Gibson as director and about the movie's possible material.
