Legendary singer Pat Boone said he recalls late comedienne Joan Rivers as being "very conservative politically" along with her late husband Edgar Rosenberg, and he tells a story of her meeting in the late 1980s with Moral Majority leader co-founder Jerry Falwell.

Rivers, 81, died on Thursday in New York Mount Sinai Hospital where she was taken after she stopped breathing during a procedure at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic Aug. 28.

While Rivers' style took no prisoners and her views would seem hard to pin down, Pat Boone told Hollywood In Toto that Joan Rivers was a conservative at heart. Boone described to the website an effort by Falwell to address "boundary bending shows" such as "All in the Family" and sought his help to arrange a meeting to industry leaders.

Boone told Hollywood in Toto that he remembered that Norman Lear, "All in the Family's" creator, rejected the meeting outright and he didn't find much support in many other places but did find it with Rivers and Rosenberg, who both attended Falwell's gathering.

"They were happy just to hear what Jerry had to say and evaluate it for themselves," Boone told the website. "Turns out she and her husband, Edgar, were very conservative politically."

Rivers, not known for being politically correct in her comedy and her view of society, blasted President Barack Obama in a Politico interview in 2012 for wanting to raise taxes on the wealthy.

"I'm also being chastised because I work 18 hours a day and make a living," Rivers told Politico. "I feel that I'm part of the two percent and I’m really not interested in a woman who has 95 children and has 95 husbands. I think the Chinese have it right: You each have one child, two children and you take care of them."

Rivers complained in the interview that Obama's policies were harsh on hard-working Americans.

"I think if I work very hard, I should be able to gather the fruits of my labor," Rivers said. "And I think if you're not about to work, you should get minimal and leave me alone. I think if you don't wear a helmet and you fall off your bike, you pay for the doctor."
