Pat Robertson: Wife of Cheating Husband Should Be More Grateful (Video)

By    |   Thursday, 16 May 2013 12:03 PM EDT

Televangelist Pat Robertson told the wife of a cheating husband Wednesday that she should be grateful for him and focus on the positive, including making the home so enticing he won't want to stray.

Robertson, who has come under fire before for his views on marriage, was responding to a viewer question on Wednesday's episode of his show, "The 700 Club."

"I've been trying to forgive my husband for cheating on me," the viewer wrote in. "We have gone to counseling, but I just can't seem to forgive, nor can I trust. How do you let go of the anger? How do you trust again?"

"Here's the secret," Robertson said. "Stop talking about the cheating. He cheated on you, well, he's a man. What you do is begin to focus on why you married him in the first place… Does he provide a home for you to live in? Does he provide food for you to eat? Does he provide clothes for you to wear? Is he nice to the children... Is he handsome?

"Recognize also, like it or not, males have a tendency to wander a little bit," he said. "What you want to do is make a home so wonderful that he doesn't want to wander."

Earlier this year, Robertson insinuated that "awful-looking" women cause marital problems.

"It just isn't something to just lie there, 'Well, I'm married to him so he's got to take me slatternly looking,'" he said. "You've got to fix yourself up, look pretty."

Robertson's comments drew criticism online.

"Ladies, have some respect for yourselves and turn off the 700 Club," one person commented on the Huffington Post version of the story.

"This poor man seems to be able only to think within a very narrow box," another posted.
