Three cars on a NJ Transit train carrying 1,200 passengers derailed at Penn Station during rush hour Monday morning, injuring five people and causing massive delays.
All of the reported injuries were minor, according to the New York Post. The train was traveling from Trenton, New Jersey, to Manhattan and was pulling into Penn Station at a slow speed.
Passengers were kept on board for almost an hour as the train was systematically emptied.
According to the Post, a rescue train was brought in to transfer the passengers, and multiple NJ Transit lines were suspended as a result of the derailment. NJ Transit buses, the NY Waterway and PATH trains honored affected tickets.
Customers were frustrated about the travel difficulties after the recent derailment only 10 days ago. One user tweeted her frustration:
This user pointed out that fare hikes were relatively pointless when things like this happen.
On March 24, an Amtrak train derailed and sideswiped a NJ Transit train during rush hour. There was no word on what caused either one of the recent derailments.
