Rep. Pete King said his campaign website was hacked by "Tim's Army," a group reportedly from Turkey that has been linked to hacking of Twitter accounts and websites of national journalists.
King, a Republican from New York, announced the breach in a statement sent out on Monday.
"The good news is that we immediately contacted our service provider and security company and the site has been cleaned and all malware removed," the statement said.
King said no personal or financial information of supporters or contributors was at risk because it isn't stored on the website's server.
"This is another demonstration of the constant threat of cyber hacking and the need to counter it immediately," the statement said.
NBC national correspondent Peter Alexander saw his Twitter account hacked in August by a group claiming to be Turkey's "cyber army," which posted threats such as, "Mr Trump, we will tear down blood vessels of those who are hostiles to TURKIYE. Be wise and learn about Turkish people in history," The Washington Post reported.
The Times of Islamabad reported in January that the Twitter account of Syed Akbaruddin, India's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, was hacked by "Turkish cyber army Ayyildiz Tim."
