While huskies may resemble direwolves from "Game of Thrones," Peter Dinklage and PETA are asking fans of the show not to buy the dogs.

Abandonment for the breed has increased since the husky-like animals were featured on HBO's popular TV show, according to The Daily Mail.

Huskies are an active breed that require more responsibility than others, which prospective owners may not realize before buying one.

“Please, please, if you’re going to bring a dog into your family, make sure that you’re prepared for such a tremendous responsibility and remember to always, always adopt from a shelter,” Dinklage said, the Daily Mail reported.

Buying a dog that you see on a TV show is often referred to as the “101 Dalmations” syndrome, and has been seen with shows and movies such as “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” and “Legally Blonde.”

Dinklage, 48, who plays Tyrion Lannister on "Game of Thrones," is a dog owner with his wife and daughter. He also is a vegetarian.

Twitter users shared their insights on huskies in agreement with Dinklage.
