A shooting at the Blooming Grove State Police Barracks in Pennsylvania late Friday evening left one dead and one injured, and a multi-state manhunt is now underway for an assailant considered armed and dangerous.
According to CBS News, Corporal Bryon Dixon and Trooper Alex Douglass were attacked around 11 p.m. as they left the police barracks located in Pike County. Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene, while Douglass was hospitalized and remains in critical but stable condition.
State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said both young men had families, and called the crime "heartbreaking."

"This attack was an ambush. Our troopers were leaving the barracks and were shot without warning, and really had no chance to defend themselves," he told reporters. "We're going to be searching and using our helicopters. We're going to use every possible technique and piece of equipment we have until we have this person in custody."
USA Today reported that police questioned Jeffrey Hudak, 48, as a person of interest, but he is not considered a suspect.
"No one is in custody or under arrest," said trooper Connie Devens. "Mr. Hudak is being questioned as a person of interest."
Authorities canvassed wooded areas around the barracks over the weekend, and also set up checkpoints on several nearby roads. Hundreds of citizens have already been interviewed for any potential leads.
The shooter or shooters are considered armed, but police believe the assailants sought to target law enforcement, and that the general public likely aren't in danger.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett released a statement of condolence on Saturday.
"Our prayers go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the Pennsylvania State Police trooper who was killed in the line of duty Friday night," he said. "We are praying as well for the full recovery of his colleague who was injured in the incident. Every attack on an officer of the law is an attack on our state, our country, and civilized society."
