'Poltergeist' Reboot Teasers Are Here; New 3D Film to Premiere in July

By    |   Thursday, 05 February 2015 10:29 AM EST

"They're here." More like, "they're back." The much-anticipated "Poltergeist" reboot will debut its first trailer this week and, if a quick teaser is any indication, the new 3D version will be just as scary as the original.

The film's first promotional pictures and an 18-second teaser premiered this week ahead of the official trailer release Thursday.

"Are there two words in the English language more creepy than "they’re here?" That's the iconic (and horrifying) sentence from the 1982 screamer 'Poltergeist,' and to this day, it haunts the collective conscious," Hollywood Life blog reported. "Well now, whoever 'they' are, they're coming back when the reboot hits theaters on July 24. The first promotional pics have just dropped and we suggest you don't look at them if you're home alone or, honestly, if you live in or anywhere near a suburb."

The "Poltergeist" reboot stars Sam Rockwell along with Rosemarie Dewitt, Jared Harris, and Nicholas Braun. According to an earlier interview in E! News, Dewitt insists the ghost in the new film will go viral.

"I'm so excited," DeWitt told the celebrity gossip site last October. "It's the (same) story but it's set now (and) sort of in a depressed, economic situation. And it's an American family who is on iPads and other gadgets. There's a lot more technology in it. It's not just the TV."

The original horror film, in which ghosts entered the human world via televisions, has set high standards for a modern-day reboot, and some fans worry about messing with a classic.

"Whenever someone approaches material that's so beloved, there’s a reflexive reaction to be worried," producer Sam Raimi said, according to LiveforFilms.com. "It's a responsibility we take very seriously. We're working to make a 'Poltergeist' film that lives up to the original's legacy."

"Unlike the traditional horror film, I wanted to put together a cast to give weight and reality to these characters," he continued. "It's the way to anchor the family. It's such an emotional story at the core. Parents fighting to get their child back from the beyond."
