Pope Francis: Bouncer, Floor Sweeper Were Previous Jobs

Pope Francis' jobs before coming leader of the Catholic Church included sweeping floors,  running tests in a laboratory, and being a night club bouncer.

That's what the pope told parishioners at San Cirillo Alessandrino church in the working-class neighborhood just outside of Rome on Sunday, according to the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano.

While the pontiff did not elaborate on his time kicking troublemakers out of bars, Pope Francis said he learned how to bring people back to the church.

"Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope," Pope Francis told his Italian parishioners.

The Telegraph first reported about Pope Francis' stint as a bar bouncer in March. The pontiff took a job at a Buenos Aires bar to earn money as a student in Argentina.

Pope Francis told the audience that he believed being a good person sets an example for others.

"(I) pray all the time, don't speak badly of others because gossip destroys friendships, and always greet people nicely, always with a smile," Pope Francis said. He told attendees that even priests can be irritable so the church leaders have to work extra hard at being "meek, amiable, and good."

Pope Francis said priests are human and need prayers from their congregations.

Pope Francis also defended his call for reform, saying that it is needed to help grow the church and show that the Catholic Church can be humble.

"Hypocrisy is a grave sin," Pope Francis said, claiming how important the church's credibility will be in attracting new members.
