Pope Francis has kept a promise he made 25 years ago to the Virgin Mary that he would not watch television and he has done just that, the pontiff told an Argentina newspaper. He said he also doesn't use the Internet.

The Pope told La Voz Del Pueblo he hasn't watched a television program since 1990, saying that television was "not for me," reported People magazine.

That means the pope has missed such TV gems as "Survivor," which first aired in 2000, "American Idol" (2002), "NCIS" (2003) and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" (2007). He told La Voz Del Pueblo he has a good reason.

"I haven't watched television (since making a promise) to the Virgen del Carmen on the night of July 15, 1990," the pope said, according to Fox News Latino.

Pope Francis, an avid soccer fan, said he depends on the Swiss guard to keep him updated on scores of his favorite clubs, noted People.

According to Fox News Latino, Pope Francis told his home country newspaper that he does not use the Internet, as well.

"I only read one newspaper, La Repubblica, a (Roman) daily aimed at the middle class. I look at it in the morning and leaf through. It doesn't take me more than 10 minutes," Pope Francis told La Voz Del Pueblo.

The pope said what he missed most about his life in Argentina was the freedom to walk through the streets unnoticed and getting an occasional pizza, wrote People.

"To go outside; that much I long for – the tranquility of walking through the streets, or to go to a pizzeria to eat a good pizza," said Pope Francis. When the reporter suggested he could get pizza delivered to the Vatican, he added, "but it is not the same."

Pope Francis said he had a simple goal for his legacy. He said he wanted to be remembered as "a good guy who tried to do good. I have no other aspirations."
