The Powerball jackpot has risen to $435 million for Saturday after there were no winners following Wednesday night’s drawing.
The Powerball number was 13 on Wednesday, but the numbers drawn were 05, 21, 57, 66, and 69, leaving ticket holders winless, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Drawings are done on Wednesday and Saturday nights, leaving a few more days till players have another opportunity to walk away with the jackpot.
Wednesday night’s jackpot was set at $380.6 million, according to Lottery Post.
Even though Saturday’s grand prize is expected to be $435 million, that number could get even bigger after "all proceeds are counted right before draw time," Lottery Post noted.
A prime example of this is what took place on Wednesday. Prior to the drawing, the jackpot was predicted to be $375 million, but that number was increased by over $5 million at the time of the drawing.
This particular drawing began back in early April, and if someone would have won the jackpot then, they would have only walked away with $40 million – that’s before federal and state tax withholdings, of course.
After 18 draws the prize money has gone up drastically and could reach even greater heights if the unlucky numbers continue Saturday night.
The largest Powerball jackpot to ever be awarded occurred on Jan. 13, 2016, when three tickets split a $1.6 billion jackpot.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the odds of winning that Powerball were 1 in 292 million.
At the time, California, Florida and Tennessee produced the winning tickets.
That jackpot also started at $40 million in prize money, but got up to $1.6 billion after multiple failed drawings.
The jackpot had grown by more than $500 million from the time of the last failed drawing to the winning drawing, four days later.
Saturday night’s drawings will take place at 11 p.m. Eastern time.
