Powerball Jackpot 'Winner' Calls NJ Truck Stop on How To Cash In

By    |   Monday, 25 March 2013 09:03 AM EDT

An unidentified man claiming to be the winner of Saturday's $338 million Powerball jackpot called a New Jersey truck stop Sunday night informing the attendant that he purchased the winning ticket there and asking him what he should do to collect his winnings.

According to truck stop manager Isaiah DeVries, the duty manager at Love's Travel Stop in Bordentown, the man's call was disconnected before he provided any information to the clerk, reported NBC 10 Philadelphia.

"He's pretty ecstatic," DeVries told NBC 10. "He said that he bought the ticket from us, came in and checked the numbers and sure enough he won it. He called me up, excited as all hell. It's kind of exciting to see a person win the ticket."

Though it's unclear who purchased the ticket, some media outlets are speculating the winner is a truck driver, considering the rumored seller was a truck stop.

New Jersey Lottery officials have yet to release any information on where the winning ticket was sold or if anyone claiming to have the winning ticket had contacted them as of Sunday.

In an interview with NBC News, DeVries said that based on the store's lottery claim forms he had believed the winning ticket was purchased at his establishment even before receiving the phone call.

If in fact he did sell the winning ticket, Love's Travel Stop is in line to receive a commission of up to $100,000 from Powerball according to Lotterypost.com.

According to DeVries, whatever they receive from having sold the winning ticket will be donated to local charities.

The winning numbers were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and a Powerball of 31. Before taxes, the $338 million jackpot would be reduced to $221 million if the lump sum option is chosen.

The Powerball drawing was the fourth largest in lottery's history.

The largest Powerball jackpot of $587.5 million occurred last November, the winnings from which were split between two winning tickets, one of which was purchased by a man in Arizona and the other by a couple in Missouri.

The state of Nebraska still has the largest single winner in lotto history in February of 2006, when eight workers at a Lincoln meatpacking plant shared a single ticket.
