"Predator," the 1987 action flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is slated for a reboot led by "Iron Man 3" screenwriter Shane Black.

An exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that 20th Century Fox has nailed down Black as well as his college friend Fred Dekker, who will adapt Black's treatment into a screenplay. Black and Dekker wrote "Monster Squad" together in 1987.

Black had a minor acting part in the original "Predator" movie, which came about because the studio wanted him to consult on the script. The story goes that as the movie went into preproduction, studio heads called him and offered him a consulting gig. He turned it down. After turning them down two more times over the next few weeks, they finally offered him a small role, to which he said yes.

When he arrived in South America to begin filming, producers nonchalantly asked him if he wanted to take a look at the script — which he declined rewriting for the final time. In short order, his character was slaughtered by the Predator.

Black, who wrote "Lethal Weapon" in the '80s, is currently developing "Doc Savage," which is based on the 1930s pulp hero. He reportedly met with "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth about the project recently.

The Predator character itself has been active throughout the years. It was seen in the 1990 sequel, "Predator 2," as well as two "Alien vs. Predator" movies.
