Pregnant Anchor's Hate Mail Says Her Body Is Too 'Gross' for TV

A Canadian news anchor pregnant with her second child has been horrified at the hate mail she received admonishing her for her maternity clothing choices and talking about her “gross” body.

Kristi Gordon, a meteorologist at Global BC in Vancouver, British Columbia, wrote that she was nervous about announcing her second pregnancy because viewers had been really unkind to her during her first pregnancy.

But instead of shying away from the subject, she and her co-workers talked about it on News Hour PLUS, discussing the expectations people have for TV anchors and reporters, and the popular segment got a lot of online attention in January.

So, Gordon wrote, she thought the discussion had worked to bring attention to the matter — that was, until her baby bump grew larger.

From slightly inappropriate messages, talking about Gordon’s choice to wear “tight, tight tops” and how if she continued to do so, the viewer would quit watching, the messages became more and more offensive, Gordon wrote.

“One email simply said ‘Hussy!’ and another ‘BUY some DECENT clothes and have more respect for the unborn child, you’re not the first pregnant woman. OMG.’ Even those messages I could handle,” Gordon said. But then she received a message from a “group” of people.

“It read: ‘Nowhere on North America TV have we seen a weather reader so gross as you. Your front end looks like the Hindenburg and rear end a brick poop (insert swear word here) house. We now turn off Globel (yes, GLOBEL and not Global). Cover up or take time off. The Group’,” Gordon shared.

What bothered Gordon was that even though she tried to blow off the note, she found herself wondering if she should work out more or being especially critical of her appearance.

Online, the sentiment was definitely in Gordon’s favor:
