President Donald Trump's executive order temporarily banning travel into the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries sparked heated protests at airports across the country after it was signed Friday.
The order affects migrant and refugee travel into the United States from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.
As some citizens of the affected countries were detained at airports, thousands of people gathered from Los Angeles to New York to protest the order, which many are calling a "Muslim ban."
Trump clarified the order in a statement issued Sunday.
"To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting," the president's statement said. "This is not about religion — this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order."
