Priebus: Walker Keeping Campaign Promises

By    |   Tuesday, 22 February 2011 07:30 AM EST

Newly elected GOP National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, a former chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, says Gov. Scott Walker is delivering on specific promises he made when running for office in 2010, and is trying to provide “a permanent solution” to the state’s $3.6 billion budget shortfall.

priebus, walker, campaign, promises“It is a permanent solution to a particular problem, which is out of control spending, out of control benefits and packages, collective-bargaining agreements that don't work at the local level, the school board level, and within the state budget,” Priebus told Fox News’ Great Van Susteren.. “So, Scott Walker promised these specific solutions to these problems when he ran for governor.

“He specifically talked about the exact percentages in the cuts and what he was going to be asking the state employees to provide if he became governor,” Priebus told the host of Fox News’ “On the Record.” “He ran on that platform. Now he's delivering on it and he's doing it responsibly. We need to get serious in Madison and this country about spending, and Scott Walker is doing it.”

Van Susteren noted a GOP state senator has suggested there might be a compromise on the budget-cutting bill, which is causing mayhem in Wisconsin for a second week.

“First of all, it is one state senator. The Republicans have a majority. They have the votes already,” Priebus said. “What Scott Walker is proposing is a permanent solution to the problem. If you take the two-year vacation solutions or one time fixes like Wisconsin has done many times in the past, two years from now we will be talking the problem again.

“Scott Walker wants to provide long-term solutions to these budget problems, and that's what he's doing,” he continued “And, I think he should, and I think the people in Wisconsin are in favor of finally getting these public-employee unions under control.”
