Prince George is barely a week old but the royal baby already has a nickname: Georgie.

Grandfather Prince Charles confirmed the moniker to an audience at the Whitstable Oyster Festival in Kent over the weekend.

The Prince of Wales said that his grandson has a "very good name," but added that he'll be called "Georgie in no time," according to The Telegraph.

Prince George Alexander Louis was born July 22 to parents William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, after months of near-frenzied anticipation in both the U.S. and U.K. The baby's name was a sticking point with British media, with bookies taking bets on what the future king would be known as.

William and Kate settled on George, a name which has come to symbolize the continuity of the monarchy, with six King Georges having worn the crown since the German-born George I ascended the throne in 1714.

It's not uncommon for the royals to have nicknames for each other. Family and friends of Queen Elizabeth II still reportedly call her by he childhood nickname, "Lilibet." Prince Philip's term of endearment for his wife is rumored to be "Cabbage."

Other reports claim the royal family's pet name for its new member is "PC" for Prince Cambridge, The Daily Mail reported.
