Prince Harry Invictus Games: Little Girl Gets a Royal Boost

By    |   Friday, 19 September 2014 04:27 PM EDT

Prince Harry bolstered his reputation as a Prince Charming this week when he picked up a 5-year-old little girl and put her on his shoulders at the Invictus Games closing ceremony so she could see the bands performing.

The Daily Mail said Prince Harry apparently spotted the little girl, Isabelle Nixon, crying because she couldn’t see, and he helped her out by not only raising her into the air, but dancing around a bit. Isabelle was happy to be able to see, but didn’t realize who was helping her until her mother, Taryn Nixon, said, “You're dancing with Prince Harry!”

“I was completely over the moon. I was chuffed to bits,” the girl told the Mail.

Isabelle’s father, Adam Nixon, was a participant in the games, which were launched by Prince Harry in an effort to “inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect of all those who serve their country,” the Invictus website says.

Adam Nixon was formerly in the 26 Regiment Royal Artillery, and he lost his one of his legs and severely injured the other in an explosion in Iraq in 2004, the Mail said. But he loved to play basketball and continued to play.

Adam Nixon told the Mail he met Prince Harry, who spoke at the games, earlier and said, “He came up, shook my hand and said: ‘You are a legend’ and I asked him for a photo with him and my family.”

Prince Harry apparently recognized the little girl from that photo session and, when he saw she was upset, felt compelled to help.

“He approached us and smiled at me and just literally picked her up and just started to dance so she could see the stage,” Adam Nixon told the Mail.

The international Invictus Games, which drew 413 competitors from 13 nations, have been lauded as an amazing success. The website said discussions are underway to organize the next games.
