Prince Harry suggested when it comes to being king or queen, there is no one in the British monarchy who really wants either title.
The royal made his comments in a Newsweek interview while discussing the challenges of "modernizing" the British monarchy, which he said is an effort that will be made with the British people in mind.
"We are involved in modernizing the British monarchy," Prince Harry told Newsweek. "We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people. ... Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don't think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time."
Prince Harry is currently fifth in the line of succession to the British throne, behind his father Prince Charles, older brother Prince William, and William's children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Harry, who recently admitted he "shut down" emotionally for almost 20 years after the death of his mother, Princess Diana, told Newsweek he wanted to use the monarchy as a "force for good."
"Sometimes, I can have too much passion," Prince Harry said. "It has got me into trouble in the past, partly because I cannot stand the idea of people mincing around the subject rather than just getting on with it.
"The monarchy is a force for good and we want to carry on the positive atmosphere that the queen has achieved for over 60 years, but we won't be trying to fill her boots," he continued.
Prince Harry praised his mother for trying to introduce him and Prince William to an "ordinary life" and said he learned how to better manage living in the "goldfish bowl" of the British monarchy.
"My mother died when I was very young," Prince Harry told the magazine. "I didn't want to be in the position I was in, but I eventually pulled my head out of the sand, started listening to people and decided to use my role for good. I am now fired up and energized and love charity stuff, meeting people and making them laugh.
"I sometimes still feel I am living in a goldfish bowl, but I now manage it better. I still have a naughty streak too, which I enjoy and is how I relate to those individuals who have got themselves into trouble," he continued.
Prince Harry is dating American actress Meghan Markle and added that he would want them to live an ordinary life as well.
