Prince William Has Diapers On His Mind as New Dad Makes First Outing

Prince William had diapers on the brain even though he spent his afternoon atop a horse playing polo for charity. Even scoring the winning goal didn’t pull his mind from home, his new son, and diaper duty.

“I was in baby mode out there, thinking about nappies. I wasn’t really in the zone,” the prince told reporters after the Audi Polo Challenge, USA Today reported. New baby Prince George and mother Kate stayed home for the afternoon.

When gifted with a mini polo stick for his son, the Duke of Cambridge joked that a more appropriate gift would have been nappies – the British term for diapers – because he needed to buy some before he went home.

It was the first time Prince William had been seen in public since his son was born, said The Associated Press. He admitted that it was nice to get out of the house for a bit, but was clearly enchanted by Prince George, reporting that he “wriggles” a lot.

The parental roles that Prince William and wife Kate will take were much discussed as the British nation and the world followed Kate’s pregnancy. Prince William’s mother, Diana, was one of the first of British royalty to take a more active role in raising her sons.

Most people have speculated that William and Kate will keep their baby close and be hands-on parents. Williams’ words at the polo match certainly seemed to indicate that would be true. In addition, he was one of the first members of royalty to take paid paternity leave after a child was born.

Christian Post Europe said William will return to duty this week with the Royal Air Force and plans to take Prince George to show him off – as any new father would – to his friends there. The site also said there is some discussion between William and Kate about where she and the baby will stay. William wants them to join him at Anglesey where he works and Kate wants to stay with her parents to get additional support as she adapts to being a mother.
