Priscilla Presley wants the world to know that her late ex-husband Elvis was the "real deal."
Presley, 69, told The Mirror U.K. about falling in love with the king of rock 'n' roll in 1959 when she was just 14 years old.
"I just thought how he was the real deal. Elvis wasn't putting on any pretense, he never did," she said. "What you saw with him is what you got. Not everyone knows that. People know his music but they don't necessarily know the real Elvis; I want the world to know he was a lovely, loyal man."
Her interview with the news site comes ahead of next month's exhibition at London's O2 Arena to celebrate Elvis' life. More than 300 artifacts from Graceland will be shipped to London for the event.
Elvis and Priscilla married in 1967 and divorced in 1973. Elvis died in 1977 at age 42. Priscilla built a career as an actress and still remains chairwoman of Elvis Presley Enterprises. She told The Mirror that she and their daughter Lisa Marie still miss Elvis tremendously.
Priscilla told The Independent that TV talent shows like "The X Factor" wouldn’t have suited the "King."
"Elvis was about the voice and connecting with people, not all these stage fireworks. People are missing out on that today because singers can’t take all those fireworks on tour. Elvis relied on his passion," she said. "People related to Elvis because of his humble beginnings. It’s a wonderful story. It helped that he was a beautiful specimen of a man in every way. He would be just as popular today."
