Reports are beginning to surface that the Obama family is buying a house in Rancho Mirage, California, as a home on the West Coast for after President Barack Obama is out of office.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, the home in Rancho Mirage is very close to SunnyLands, a presidential getaway known as the unofficial West Coast Camp David. Rancho Mirage is a top golfing destination and is where former President Gerald Ford retired.

It was previously confirmed the Obamas will be leasing a $4.3 million, nine-bedroom mansion in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., while daughter Sasha finishes her high school career, so this new home could be for vacationing or future plans.

According to Page Six, the Obamas have been reported as buying a home in Rancho Mirage for at least two years, but the White House has denied previous reports.

Michael S. Smith, who also has a home in Rancho Mirage, is believed to have the task of designing the home along with a vacation home in Hawaii that the Obamas also bought recently, Page Six said. Smith helped the Obamas decorate the White House and the Obamas have visited his home as well.

The Obamas currently own a home in the Hyde Park section of Chicago, but are not expected to return there, although the Obama presidential library will be built there.
