Rapper Tory Lanez was charged on Thursday for shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a heated argument earlier this year. Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is facing one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm in a vehicle, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a statement per CNN.
The incident took place on July 12. Lanez was in an SUV with a 25-year-old woman, who is identified in a criminal complaint as Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, when they got into a heated argument. She then exited the vehicle and began walking away at which point Lanez reportedly fired several shots at her feet and wounded her.
An arraignment for Lanez is scheduled on October 13 and, if convicted, he could be facing up to 22 years and eight months in state prison.
Megan Thee Stallion spoke up about the shooting in August on social media.
"You shot me," she said, addressing Lanez on Instagram Live, according to CNN. "And you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and sh-t. Stop lying. Why lie? I don't understand."
Megan Thee Stallion also posted a now-deleted photo of the wound she sustained during the shooting.
Lanez was arrested shortly after the incident and initially charged with having a concealed firearm in a vehicle. He was booked into prison and bonded out later in the day.
