Raven Symone has officially been named as a co-host on the panel of ABC's "The View," stars of the talk show announced Wednesday.
After months of sitting in as a guest panelist, the 29-year-old will join moderator Whoopi Goldberg, and co-hosts
Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace, The Associated Press reported.
Before it was made official, Symone guest-hosted the program a total of 37 times.
"The Disney Company has made another one of my dreams come true! Being a part of The View family will be a wonderful growing experience for me," Symone said in a statement after her casting was announced during Wednesday's show. "The cast and crew are warm and welcoming and have made the transition into daytime talk easier. I have a lot to learn within this new arena, but being the apprentice of these spectacular women will only make me a better person and talk show host."
Known for her long-running Disney teen show “That’s So Raven” and her role as Olivia on “The Cosby Show,” Symone has been a favorite to join "The View" and has reportedly been in talks with the
network since last spring, according to Us Weekly.
"[Execs] think she's really smart but also a little kooky and so she'd be a good fit," a TV insider explained to the gossip magazine last month.
"Every night she studies all the current events and topics for the next day," another source further explained. "Everyone is blown away. Nobody else prepares like she does!"
“The View” creator and executive producer Barbara Walters also issued a statement about Symone's new position.
"Raven-Symone is a welcome addition to 'The View,'" she said. "She is happy, amusing, and well-informed, and has already brought a unique perspective to the program that has resonated with our audience."
Symone’s addition is the newest modification to the anchor desk after co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy left in August 2014. Second-time co-host Rosie O’Donnell came back only to exit again from the program later in February.
After the Raven Symone announcement was made, many fans took to Twitter to express their excitement.
